OUR HISTORY
Our Background
Cheadle Thompson & Haysom Inc. was started in 1979 by three legal academics from the University of the Witwatersrand.
Since then the firm has grown from a human rights and labour law practice into a leading South African law firm with offices in Johannesburg and Cape Town providing a diverse range of legal services.
Over four decades we have developed a team of specialised, skilled and committed lawyers and broadened our areas of expertise along with a growing client base. Cheadle Thompson & Haysom Inc. combines academic and legal expertise with strategic and practical advice. We offer innovative, original and resourceful approaches to complex legal challenges.
Our Experience & Expertise
Directors of the firm have authored major legal textbooks, edited law journals & written numerous articles in journals and the press.
Our lawyers have successfully litigated in both general & specialist courts, often in precedent setting cases that have had far reaching effects on the implementation of legislation and the development of South African law.
Our directors have drafted key laws in many different policy areas for regional, national, provincial and local governments.
Directors and former directors of the firm have served as judges of the High Court and the Labour Court, as members of specialist bodies such as the Competition Tribunal and the Employment Equity Commission & as special legal advisors to the President of South Africa, National Ministers, and the Premier of the Gauteng Province.
The firm counts leading experts in various specialist legal fields among its directors and professional staff. We have also played a leading role in promoting the use of plain language in the law. We offer plain language & good design as a feature of our legal services.
