Brendan Barry heads the Public Sector Law department at Cheadle Thompson & Haysom. His fields of specialization are legal policy, legislative drafting and regulatory reform. His key practice areas include education and skills development law, employment and occupational health and safety law, administrative and constitutional law and public sector law (including governance, procurement, financial management and inter-governmental relations).
Brendan has advised a wide range of public and private sector clients, including government at regional, national, provincial and local levels, major public entities, corporations, trade unions and non-governmental organizations. He has been centrally involved in drafting a broad range of laws at regional, national, provincial and local government level (including the South African Schools Act and the Higher Education Act, the Skills Development Amendment Act and the Mine Health and Safety Amendment Act) and has conducted substantive legislative reviews for national, provincial and regional government.
Brendan has authored a number of books, including Schools & the Law (Juta), the Skills Development Handbook (Juta) (co-author) and the Law & Policy Handbook on Public Transport (Juta).
